What people are saying about GuideTree
Why is GuideTree the answer?
GuideTree addresses three areas. It offers clear progression toward increased competence, paired with expert guidance, and a reliable evidence-informed resource hub that staff can access directly in their daily practice.
Workforce crisis
Turnover rates in child- and family-serving roles typically range from 20% to 40% nationwide, increasing costs and disrupting continuity of care. Analysis from early pilots indicates that supervisor engagement in GuideTree leads to higher staff engagement and buy-in.
Scattered, impractical resources
Staff often turn to resources not designed for case planning, finding materials on their own through sources like Google or Pinterest that may not be clinically reliable or evidence informed. If staff can find resources, many times they are written in academic language and are challenging to implement. GuideTree combines a proven approach to critical thinking with a trusted source for field-ready interventions. The GuideTree Toolbox structures resources to support staff step-by-step in their work with young people and families.
Rising complexity
Young people and families face overlapping behavioral health issues, trauma and social stressors. Workers are asked to manage more with fewer resources. GuideTree offers hundreds of interventions and resources in an easy-to-use portal that can be accessed from anywhere.

GuideTree FAQ
What is GuideTree?
GuideTree is a workforce training and development approach created by Youth Villages for case workers, supervisors and staff in child and family services. It combines effective conceptualization methods and structured guidance with a dynamic knowledge hub of curated, evidence-based resources. GuideTree provides staff with a roadmap for analyzing cases, selecting effective interventions and delivering more consistent, high-quality care to young people and their families.
How is GuideTree different from a typical training?
GuideTree is more than supervision or a one-time training. It begins with an interactive and self-paced online learning curriculum, followed by an ongoing, structured approach that fits directly into everyday case work. In addition to skill-building and coaching, staff have access to a dynamic knowledge hub. This includes real-time, searchable, evidence-informed resources they can use right away with young people and families. Progress is tracked through built-in metrics and milestones rather than a single completion event.
What does GuideTree include?
GuideTree brings together:
- A dynamic knowledge hub with more than 30 referral issues, over 300 interventions and thousands of resources that staff can access in real time.
- A conceptualization approach that helps staff analyze complex cases and choose the most effective interventions.
- A phased curriculum with clear milestones — Activate, Accelerate and Amplify — that guide staff from foundational learning to advanced practice and leadership.
- A certification model for staff and a train-the-trainer pathway to build in-agency experts.
- Built-in metrics to track growth and demonstrate competency over time.
Who is GuideTree for, and where can it be used?
What results have agencies seen so far?
Early results are promising. At Children’s Aid in New York City, 88% of staff reported improved use of interventions; 71% reported improved skills delivering interventions; and 53% reported greater job satisfaction. At Hoyleton Youth and Family Services in Illinois, residential pilots showed fewer serious incidents and increased youth engagement.
An independent evaluation by the University of Connecticut documented staff improvements in critical thinking, use of evidence-based practices and intervention planning. The strongest evidence so far relates to staff competence, confidence, service planning and job satisfaction.
How will an investment in GuideTree affect my agency?
Agencies using GuideTree report improved staff satisfaction; reduced turnover; improved staff competence and higher productivity; and better outcomes for the young people and families they serve. These benefits generate cost savings for the agency; many find these savings far exceed the cost of GuideTree.
What is the cost to bring GuideTree to my agency?
Agencies are charged fees to offset the support provided by Youth Villages as part of GuideTree implementation. GuideTree fees are based on a per-user cost structure. This allows us to accommodate agencies of all sizes.
Why does this matter now?
Across the country, child- and family-serving agencies face high turnover and increasingly complex needs among the young people and families they support. Staff also rely more on technology to find resources on the go, but many of the materials they come across aren’t designed for case planning or aren’t evidence-informed.
GuideTree gives staff a clear path to build competence and confidence while offering a practical, online knowledge hub they can use in real time. The resource hub is accessible in the field. This makes it easier to bring consistent, evidence-informed, high-quality support into everyday case work.
